Code of Conduct

As with any martial art a certain code of conduct, both of behavior and safety, is expected in the fencing salle.  Students enrolled in Maestra Sahm's fencing classes are expected to understand and follow the rules laid out in the Code of Conduct. Conduct becoming of an officer and gentleman or gentlewoman are part of our tradition as explained in Maestro William M. Gaugler's articles "Fencing Instruction and the Concept of Honor" and  "The Scoula Magistrale and the Concept of An Officer and a Gentleman".  Maestro Aldo Nadi also enforced unwavering rules in his salle as seen in his academy pamphlet.

Worksheets

This collection of worksheets can be used by the student in conjunction with The Science of Fencing as independent study work.

Study of the text, aa well as cross-training, are the acceptable activities to be done outside of the salle for beginners.  For students who are new to fencing practice of the practical work, i.e. lunging and footwork, are DISCOURAGED outside of class.  This should be delayed as to not develop bad habits.
